After the nice conversation with Daniel, Andy felt led to approach a flamboyantly dressed man named Thomas. I asked Thomas if I could take his picture - he agreed. But when Andy stepped up to get his picture taken with Thomas - Thomas, in no uncertain terms made it known that he liked Andy. Andy, Josh and I quickly became so uncomfortable with Thomas that none of us really wanted to interview him. Maybe we should have just backed out of it, but Thomas needed to hear the truth too.
Like I said, I was extremely uncomfortable – so if it sounds like I’m rushing, I am.
After the interview, I was reminded of a C.H. Spurgeon sermon I heard a few years ago. It’s entitled, Spiritual Resurrection. In it he talks about three individuals that Jesus rose from the dead: 1) the daughter of Jairus, 2) the widow's son, 3) and Lazarus. His text is Ephesians 2:1. He talks about the fact that man is born into the world spiritually dead. And that it is only through the Holy Spirit that one can be made alive. Listen to the distinctions that Spurgeon makes between these three individauals. Thomas is a Lazarus – God may give him life too. Please pray for Thomas.
