Tuesday Afternoon

Download this episode (9 min)
It was late Tuesday afternoon when Sawyer and I went to Pismo Beach. We met a very nice young lady named Vanessa (14). Joanne, Vanessa’s Grandmother, stood by and allowed me to ask Vanessa a few spiritual questions.

Vanessa and her Grandma are originally from Santa Maria – they are now living on the East Coast. After sharing the Gospel with Vanessa, I had the privilege of spending a few minutes with Joanne.

Joanne indicated that she used to attend a “word of faith church.” She said that she had been hurt in this experience. She then went to a church that ended up being “legalistic.” When her family began having problems, the church didn’t offer much support. She was a bit distraught with church and said, “I think I need to go back to square one.”

Joanne opened up and told me the sad story about her daughter, Vanessa’s mom, who is a recovering drug addict. Vanessa’s mom had four children who all ended up in foster care due to her lifestyle. Three of the children found good foster homes. Joanne wasn’t comfortable with the home Vanessa ended up in so she now lives with her. Isn’t that a loving thing to do? I could tell Joanne really loves her granddaughter. In spite of the love she has for Vanessa, their relationship is going through a tough time.

Joanne indicated that she was a born again believer. Please pray for this dear family. They are going through a real tough season. Pray for the salvation of Vanessa and her mom who needs surgery from a self-inflicted injury.
