Does Compassion Swallow Fear?

Download this episode (13 min)
There were people standing in line to get their food. There were those who were already eating sitting on the steps. If you stand on the sidewalk, at the bottom of the stairs, you can preach to the people both in line and the people sitting eating. Every time I’ve passed this area, I would think, “This looks like a great place to preach open air.” But I’ve never given it a go.

I haven’t done any open air preaching at Farmer’s Market for quite a while. My heart was beating so hard that it’s beat drowned out the sound of the crowds. As I opened my mouth and began to speak, I could feel my heart beating in my voice. I wondered if anyone could heart it too. I was petrified but I couldn’t get myself to just turn my back on these people. I stood and looked into the eyes of different people gathered around to get their food and in time I was overwhelmed with compassion for them. My fears began to fade away after the first five minutes of preaching.

The only way people get saved is if they hear the Gospel. Ok – most of them have more than likely heard the Gospel before. But maybe one of them needs to hear it JUST ONE MORE TIME from a scared, tongue-tied guy at Farmer’s Market. Maybe this is the day that our Sovereign God will grant them repentance. Please pray for them.
